Oh, the things kids say!

Coleman says some of the most precious things.  I have been writing some of them down lately so I don't ever forget them!  I love his questions and I'm amazed at how much a little tyke can absorb.  Here are a few of my favorites from the past couple of months:

"How does my body turn food into energy?" (Jumping up and down)
"How does God make the sun go to China at night?"
“Where did the earth come from?”  (What?!  He's already pondering creation?!)
“How do we hear God answer our questions?”  (Great question!)
“Why do trees lose their leaves in winter?”
“Why do trees stop growing in winter?”  (I told him trees use leaves to grow, and in winter trees lose their leaves because they don’t grow in winter.)

A conversation in August:
Coleman: "What's that?" (Pointing through the car window)
Me: “The cemetery.”
Coleman: “What’s a cemetery?”
Me: “Where they put people's bodies when they die.”
Coleman:  “Is the cemetery Heaven?”
Me: “No.  The cemetery is where they put people’s bodies.  The people’s souls go to heaven.”
Coleman: “What’s a soul?”
Me: “Umm…”

A conversation in September:
Coleman: “How does gas make the car go?”
Me: “The gas goes into a little tube called a piston and the car lights it on fire and there’s a tiny explosion, like fireworks, that makes the wheels turn.”
Coleman, later during the car ride: “What’s exhaust?”
Me: “Leftover gas the car doesn’t use.”
Coleman: “Why does the car need exhaust?”
Me: “The car doesn’t need exhaust, it’s just left over.”
Coleman: “Why doesn’t the car use that gas to go?”
Me: “Umm…”

Another conversation in September:
Shortly after praying to ask Jesus to live in his heart, Coleman and I had the following conversation.
Coleman: "Where does Jesus live?"
Me: "In heaven."
Coleman: "Is this heaven?" (Pointing to his heart.)

Again in September:
Coleman: "Where's Dad?"
Me: "Campus."
Coleman: "What's he doing?"
Me: "Telling people about Jesus."
Coleman: "Why do some people not know Jesus?"
Me: "Some people just don't know about Jesus yet.  They don't understand that Jesus loves them."
Coleman: "But Jesus does love them."
Me: "You're right, Jesus does love them."
Coleman: "They don't know that Jesus loves them?"
Me: "That's right."
Coleman, jumping with excitement: "I want to go to campus and tell people about Jesus!"

A conversation in October:
Coleman overheard me tell my brother, Chad, about the cemetery conversation Coleman & I had.
Coleman asked, “what’s a soul?” (I guess my previous answer to this question wasn't sufficient!)
Chad: “It’s the bottom of your foot.” (Of course referring to a sole.)
Coleman, looking confused: “The bottom of my foot?”
Chad: “No, I’m kidding.  Soul & sole are homophones.”
We briefly explained the words soul, sole, and homophone to Coleman.  A couple of days later, Coleman and I were having a conversation involving the words two and too.  I mentioned that two and too are homophones.
Coleman grinned at me and said “No, silly Mommy!  Homophones are on the bottoms of our feet!”
